Nigerian Institute of Production Management (NIPM) President and Chairman of Council Dr Niyi Opanuga ,FNIPM has reiterated the Institute commitment development and staff training of Nigeria’s small and medium enterprises (SMES) with a new to improve productivity, safety, quality, efficiency, competitiveness, and at profitability of their generation.

Dr Niyi Opanuga, FNIPM has reiterated the Institute commitment development and staff training of Nigeria’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with a new to improve productivity, safety, quality, efficiency, competitiveness, and at profitability of their generation.

 

Speaking at a factory training program organize for FAE Limited in Lagos in line with NIPM Certification Standards to drive operational efficiency, safety, quality, maintainability and productivity.

Dr opanuga emphasized the importance of NIPM collaboration with the SMES in view of their significance in the national economic growth and development being key job creators accounting for an increasingly high employment rate, helping to alleviate poverty, build skill and develop future entrepreneur. According to the United Nations (UN) agency

International Labor Organization (ILO) MSMES generate 84% employment, account, for 96% of businesses and 48% of the national GDP, a report credited to the country Director of ILO, Vanessa Phala while speaking in Abuja in early 2023.

 

Part of the challenges faced by SMSE in Nigeria according to Dr. Opanuga are in public infrastructural deficit, high cost of doing business, multiple taxation, energy epilepsy, difficulty in securing credit facilities at reasonable interest rate and fiscal policy that encourage importation of goods to the determent of local small and medium scale manufacturer. NIPM provides low-cost staff training and consulting services to lessen the plight of the SMSE and reposition them for competitiveness, profitability and sustainable growth.
