He became Chief Lecturer, Principal Consultant and Director of Education & Training when he founded the College of Production & Operations Management – COPOM in 2003.

 

Dr Olaniyi Opanuga is an ingenious builder of people and institutions. He had a vision to establish a “Professional University” of Production and Operations Management – the first of its kind in the world.

 

It was Dr Opanuga as he is popularly called that initiated the idea of a professional body of production and operations managers in Nigeria, leading to the establishment of Nigerian Institute of Production Management-NIPM Nigeria in 1987 and it’s eventual recognition and registration by the Federal Government in 1998.

 

The College gained popularity among leading manufacturers including multinational, international and indigenous companies culminating in the sponsorship of increasing number of directors and managers for Professional Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Postgraduate diploma-PGD Courses as a key element of their professional development programmes.

 

Hence, the curriculum and the entire educational administration of the College has been industry demand- driven ab initio.

PUBLIC SERVICE:

 

Dr Opanuga has played his part in teaching, research, educational administration and public administration roles. He had a meritorious service in the public sector. He was employed by the Ministry of Education, Kano State in 1983 and became Head of Business Education at Government Secondary School in Hadejia in the present Jigawa State as well served as the Co-Ordinator, Adult Literacy Programme.

 

He played active role in politics. Olaniyi Opanuga served as the Supervisor for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Secretary to the Local Government and Chairman of Odogbolu Local Government, Ogun State between 2012 and 2017.

 

INDUSTRIAL SECTOR 

 

In 1977 he joined Bata Nigeria Limited in as a supplier in the warehouse and distribution department. He later joined Newness Enterprises Ltd as a Sales Representative. He had a stint at Ashmirt Techno and Precious Pearl where he rose to the position of Administrative Manager and later joined Pressdata Services Ltd as General Manager – Operations in 1987. Same year, he founded his own companies, Steadfast Publications Limited and Optimum Resources Limited, a management consulting firm with offices in Nigeria, the U.K and USA.
