INTRODUCTION
The Institute was registered on the 20th July, 1998 with the main object of regulating the standards of practice and the promotion and advancement of the profession of Production and Operations Management in Nigeria.
The Nigerian Institute of Production Management (NIPM) as the nation’s pioneer Association for Production, Logistics, Supply Chain and Operations Management has been in operations for over 35 years.
NIPM is a notable professional development facilitating institution (PDFI). It has been an active player of repute in building competencies (knowledge skills and abilities) required for high performance in production and operations supervision and management jobs in various industrial sectors nationwide.
NIPM is committed to the advancement of the Production and Operations Management (POM) profession and the promotion of the integrity of POM practices as a key element of organizational strategy. Founded in 1987 by Dr. Olaniyi Opanuga, FNIPM, NIPM has both corporate and individual members across the nation’s industrial sub-sectors including Federal Government owned organizations, multinationals and leading indigenous manufacturing companies.
NIPM promotes professional education and training for greater effectiveness and general resources optimization with the aim of facilitating productivity and industrial development. It promotes continuous advanced learning and improvements, high standards of ethical conduct, World Class Operations Management (WCOM) practices and sharing of knowledge and best practices among practitioners nationwide. Knowledge and professional practice of Production and Operations Management is critical to productivity, quality, safety, profitability, entrepreneurship, industrial development, environmental sustainability and National economic growth.
OUR LEADERSHIP
The first President of the Institute was Engineer Deen Adekoya, FNIPM, former Technical Director of CAP Plc and the second President of the Institute was Mr. Adebowale Thompson, FNIPM, former Managing Director/Chief Executive of Berger Paints Nigeria plc. The third and the current President is Dr. Olaniyi Opanuga, FNIPM, Chairman, Steadfast Publications Ltd, Director, Primerica Oil & Logistics Ltd, Chairman, Optimum Resources Management, Technology & Engineering Services, the Provost/Dean of Studies, College of Production & Operations Management (COPOM) and Honorary Director General, The Certified Institute of Applied Management And Administration (CIAMA).

INSTITUTE’S ACTIVITIES
The Institute provides its members both corporate and individual opportunity of professional networking, sharing knowledge and cross-learning, discounted training fees, receiving of publications, attending meetings, workshops and conferences.
NIPM advocacy programmes include Productivity Improvement, HSE, Quality, Entrepreneurship, Made-In Nigeria, Operational Efficiency and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
NIPM organizes industrial and government visitation programmes. NIPM has organized several national conferences and annual general meetings with active involvement of the Presidency, State Governments and the Organized Private Sector and Government Regulatory agencies.
The Institute publishes Production Management Review (PMR) and NIPM NEWS and distributes operations management learning resources materials. NIPM Members subscribe to a professional code of conduct. NIPM is administered under a centralized and decentralized organizational system-NIPM Central Administration and NIPM Societies and Centres. The Institute established a technical arm, the Institution of Operations and Supply Chain Management (IOSCM).
