The Nigerian Institute of Production Management, NIPM, has deepened its drive to boost industrial productivity and operational excellence as leading energy, manufacturing and construction companies in oil and gas, steel, paints, food and beverage sectors partner with the Institute on staff training in 5S, Preventive Maintenance, and Total Productive Maintenance, TPM.

The partner organizations include Integrated Oil and Gas Ltd, a part of Genesis Worldwide Shipping, GWS, CAP Plc, a division of UAC Group, Romson Oil Field Services Ltd, a part of TGI Group, Quantum Steels Nigeria Ltd, a part of Quantum Group, and Rite Foods Nigeria Ltd, a subsidiary of E-ssay Holdings Group.

 

Through the partnership, the companies are training their workforce to improve housekeeping, achieve zero breakdowns, zero defects, zero accidents, and zero downtime. The initiative is also designed to boost productivity, efficiency, safety, industrial capacity, production line utilization, asset optimization, and plant-level profitability.

Speaking on the development, the President and Chairman of Council of NIPM, Dr. Olaniyi Opanuga, FNIPM who also doubles as the Keynote Speaker and Faculty Lead Consultant, emphasized the importance of 5S Housekeeping, Preventive Maintenance and TPM Awareness, Training and Implementation in today’s competitive global environment.

He stated that “in a world where efficiency and asset optimization determine survival, Nigerian industries must embrace disciplined maintenance culture and continuous improvement. Our collaboration with Romson Oilfield, Quantum Steels, Rite Foods and other leading organizations is aimed at equipping managers, engineers, and operators with the skills to deliver zero breakdowns, zero defects, zero accidents and improved profitability.”

 

According to Dr. Opanuga, many Government or Public Sector facilities and private sector organizations are in dire need of maintenance culture and sustainable maintenance management practices, driven by the right policy, strategies and decisions.

“Nigeria is losing billions of naira while human lives are lost daily on the altar ignorance, non – challance or outright expediency and maintenance management incompetence.” Dr Opanuga lamented.

 

The entire country, public sector agencies, parastatals, ministries as well as institutions, privately owned companies and individual asset or property owners need to do a critical evaluation of their assets in terms of maintainability, structural and infrastructural integrity, availability, service quality, safety, effectiveness and performance,” he said.

Dr. Opanuga further noted that through NIPM’s School of Facility, Project, Maintenance and Engineering Management, Department of Maintenance Operations Management, the Institute has been at the forefront of building capacity for manufacturing, plant, factory, production and operations managers, engineers, technologists, scientists, supervisors, technicians and machine operators in leading organizations nationwide.

 

He reaffirmed NIPM’s commitment to partnering with more organizations across all sectors to strengthen Nigeria’s industrial base and drive sustainable economic growth.
